PIERO LISSONI’S U.S. DEBUT

July 9, 2014

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, will be comprised of 111 residences and 15 private single family villas, exclusively designed by Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni. The residential development is Piero’s first full-scale architectural work in the US. Piero specializes in modern Italian, but his specialty is creating a sense of warmth, humanity and surprise through unexpected detail or imperfections. The Italian part of his artistry focuses on purism, and the humanist side always to add that bit of personality or imperfection that indicated that life happens in this space rather than vice versa. “A space cannot define life. Life defines the space and life means your culture, your soul, your noise, your silence. Anything else is based on formulas and is totally impersonal – a direction I avoid,” said Piero. He expresses his philosophy in the way he dresses as well; he likes to have his pants too short as he likes to have a tiny bit of imperfection to his overall cultivated look. Piero is also developing three major residential projects – The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, Penthouses at AKA Times Square, and Oceana Bal Harbour in Miami – as well as working on specialty designs for Boffi, Nespresso and other consumer brands.
